Journey to Jerusalem
As we begin a new year, the nurses have devised a walking (or other aerobics) plan to help us get healthier and have some fun doing it. We’re taking a virtual
walk to Jerusalem in time to be there for Easter!
We’ve figured it all out. We have to travel 6591 miles from Belton to Jerusalem. But since we don’t expect to be able to walk on water, we are flying across the Atlantic. That leaves 2984 actual land miles that we must walk. We’ll start keeping track of all our exercise on January 6th giving us twelve weeks to make the journey together. We’ll need to cover a collective 44 miles a day Monday through Saturday, taking Sundays off as a day of rest as God instructed us to do.
We need everyone to help. If you know someone in Assisted Living or a
nursing facility who does Chair Exercises, please tell them that twenty minutes
of aerobic activity counts as one mile. This is one way these folks can be
active participants in their church family. And that goes for any other aerobic
activity: 20 min's equals 1 mile. Others can do their miles at the Community
Center, on their own treadmills, or for the hardiest souls on the school track
or the streets of Belton. Each week, we’ll total the miles we’ve walked as a
total church family and our Tour Director will share information about the area
we are currently walking through. We may learn all kinds of interesting
We’ll divide the walkers into three “teams” led by the three nurses, Polly, Cherrie and Lyn. Incredible prizes may be involved! Individual miles walked will be posted weekly on a wall chart at church and our total distance for the week will be marked on a map.
A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step, they say. Please sign up
to help us take our journey of 2984 miles!
