UMW Guild 70th Anniversary at CrossRoads
The United Methodist Women’s Guild celebrated their 70th Anniversary in 2011. Cake and punch were served after the worship service in recognition of this achievement. The Guild was organized on January 10, 1941, and undertook many projects with which to support the church financially, as well as donating community service projects. They began one of their best fundraisers in 1987--the preparation of food for testing by the Federal Drug Administration. The Guild joined with the other UMW Circles to complete this task 16 times a year, and the work continues to this day. The UMW generously donates half of the proceeds from this project to the church general budget, and they are able to provide youth scholarships and other donations throughout the year. Faye Wallace, Guild member, took to the podium Sunday to give the congregation a historical and interesting summary of the life of the Guild over the years. She paid tribute to the only living charter member of the Guild, Elnora Fay, as well as the current President of the Guild, Margaret Kershaw. Margaret has led the Guild for the last several years. CrossRoads is lucky to have the rich heritage of these women and their dedication and loyalty to God and church.
